” Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh.”
- Hebrews 10:19-20 KJV
The final court in the Tabernacle of Moses is the Holy of Holies. This sacred space was accessible only to the high priest, and only once a year, on the Day of Atonement. Literally embodying the pinnacle of holiness, the Holy of Holies was the most sacred place in the Tabernacle, where the manifest presence of God dwelled above the Ark of the Covenant. A veil separated the Holy of Holies from the holy place, symbolizing the barrier between God and man. Despite the atonement and cleansing that had taken place, humanity was deemed unworthy to enter this most sacred court.
The turning point came in Matthew 27:51. The Bible tells us that when Jesus died on the cross, "Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split." This tearing signifies God removing the barrier between us and Himself. Through the sacrifice of Jesus, we now have direct access to the Holy of Holies, the manifest presence of God.
The sacrifice of Jesus gave us unhindered access to the height of sacredness, the Holy of Holies.
Hebrews 10:19-20 affirms that we can boldly enter the holiest place based on the sacrifice of Jesus. In the Old Testament context, this represents a privilege beyond comprehension. What was once reserved for the high priest is now available to every believer. As Jesus told the Samaritan woman in John 4:21, the time has come when access to God is no longer tied to a physical Tabernacle or location. Everyone who acknowledges Jesus' sacrifice and seeks God on that basis enjoys unrestricted access to Him. Apart from Jesus, we no longer need any intermediary between ourselves and God; we are invited into His very presence.
To be clear, God's requirement for holiness in His presence remains non-negotiable. However, believing in Jesus and the redemptive work of the cross grants us the privilege of receiving righteousness by faith, which is the only acceptable standard of holiness before God. As stated in 2 Corinthians 5:21, "For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him."
As we conclude this incredible journey into divine intimacy, let us consciously approach God with gratitude, reverence, and boldness. The sacrifice of Jesus gave us unhindered access to the height of sacredness, the Holy of Holies. Spend time in His presence today, knowing that you have been invited into the innermost chamber of the Creator of the universe.
