“The Lord has said, “So come out from among them. Do not be joined to them. Touch nothing that is sinful. And I will receive you.’’
2 Corinthians 6:17
In the days of old, the distinction between good and bad was like day and night. It was very easy to spot ungodliness from afar. We now live in a world that constantly blurs the lines between right and wrong. There is a daily struggle between the interpretation of men and the standards of God. Values are fading, sound doctrines seem like a scarce commodity. How do we stand firm in our faith?
"Be Ye Separate" is a call to holiness, a journey towards spiritual integrity in a compromised world. Let us explore the profound impact of living a life distinct from the world's corruption and embrace the fullness of a relationship wholly dedicated to our Creator.
In 1 Samuel 29, David joined himself with the Philistines to fight the Israelites. His defence? He was trying to escape Saul’s threats and pursuit. Even the Philistines were surprised how a man in whom God had done wonders in the past could now be comfortable in the camp of the heathen. Like every other venture carried out against the Lord, it ended in losses for David, his men and their families (1 Samuel 30:4).
This calls for a moment of reflection. How many times have you taken sides against God? Do people find it comfortable to blaspheme your God and His servants around you? How about through the social media and online channels? Rather than propagating the gospel of Jesus, how many lies have been spread through the ‘likes’ and ‘shares’? You could use those same channels to declare Christ. The Lord is calling you today, ‘Be ye separate’.
Don’t become partners with those who reject God. How can you make a partnership out of right and wrong? Are light and dark best friends? Does Christ go strolling with the Devil? Do trust and mistrust hold hands?
The Message translation of our anchor text puts it very clearly: “Don’t link up with those who will pollute you. God wants you all for Himself and He has assured to stand by you as a Father.”
It is okay to be the light in a room full of darkness. If sin can proclaim its merchandise boldly on the rooftops and in the streets, why then are you hiding your light under the bushel?
It is okay to say NO to what we know in God to be wrong.
Today, let the fear of God guide your heart and lead you to do what is always right irrespective of who is watching or where you are.
"Be Ye Separate" is not just a completed devotional; it's the beginning of a lifelong commitment to holiness and spiritual integrity. May the Lord help us to abide by this dedication in Jesus' name (Amen).
