Born to Shine!

March 20, 2025

“Saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”.”

Matthew 2:2 (NKJV)

In a world often clouded by darkness, God has called us to be the light that reveals hope to those around us. To understand our purpose to shine, we must acknowledge that we are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God. In our anchor scripture today, we see Jesus described as a star even from birth.

According to Gen 1:27, So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

This confirms that as He is - a star, so are we in this world - 1 John 4:17b. This foundational truth affirms that we are divinely crafted, with the potential to reflect God's glory.

In Matthew 5:14-16, Jesus declares: You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

We are born to shine, and the light within us is greater than any darkness we may encounter.

As followers of Christ, we are not called to conceal our light but to shine it brightly for the world to see. Our good works, driven by God's love, are meant to draw others closer to Him.

In John 1:5, we read, the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

As children of God, we carry the unquenchable light of Christ within us. No matter how dark the circumstances may seem, the light within us is more powerful. In times of despair, uncertainty, or difficulty, we can be confident that the darkness will never extinguish the light of Christ shining through us.

Our journey to shine may not always be easy, and we may encounter challenges that seek to dim our light. But our perseverance in faith, even in the face of adversity, allows us to shine as beacons of hope and steadfastness, testifying to the transformative power of Christ.

As we begin reflecting over the next few days on the truth that we are born to shine, let us remember our identity as children of God created in His image. May we embrace the calling to be lights in the world, allowing God's transformative power to work in us and through us.

As we navigate life's challenges, let us remain steadfast, knowing that the light within us is greater than any darkness we may encounter. May our lives be a testimony to the world, drawing others to the source of true and eternal light – Jesus Christ. Amen.

  Song of Worship

Shine, Jesus, shine, fill this land with the Father's glory

Blaze, Spirit, blaze, set our hearts on fire

Flow, river, flow, flood the nations with grace and mercy

Send forth Your word, Lord, and let there be light
