Celebrating Jesus

"And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.  This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests."

- Luke 2:8-14 (NIV)

The birth of Christ was an event like no other. It was so significant that it caused celebration in heaven. And till this day it is an event celebrated all over the earth as well.

Today, there are many who are referred to as “celebrities”—movie stars, musicians, world leaders etc. But Jesus is the ultimate celebrity. Even those who choose not to celebrate Him can’t deny the impact of His life on the entire world.

Jesus was God in flesh. His coming to earth was the most momentous occasion in history. Heralded by angels, His coming marked a shift for mankind.

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. Luke 2:10-11

The Scripture above shows that Christ really is Lord—and that this is good news for all mankind. Why is it good news one might ask?

It is good news because humankind was in dire need of salvation. When Adam and Eve fell in the garden, their fall affected all of humankind. When humankind fell in the garden, lordship was relinquished to Satan.

It might sound strange at first that through the failings of Adam and Eve, all of humankind was condemned. But it is not so strange when you consider the law of representation. It plays out in many arenas. Countries are represented by soldiers, and sports teams stand as representatives of their nations.

Therefore, by the same principle of representation that led humankind to fall, God became a man to save us all. And in His victory, He changed the lordship from Satan back to Himself. We are no longer slaves to Satan because of Jesus. Hallelujah!

This is why we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. It means so much to humanity. All the work of redemption He performed could not have happened if He had not been born. But because He was born, He lived on to fulfill His purpose of our redemption.

This Christmas season, let us remember the greatest Celebrity of all—Jesus—and let us celebrate Him with a heart of gratitude and dedication.

Prayer - Heavenly Father, we thank You for the precious gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ, whose birth changed the course of history. We celebrate His coming with hearts full of joy, knowing that through His life, death, and resurrection, we are redeemed. Thank You for sending Him to restore us to You, for His victory over sin and death, and for the freedom we have in Him. May we always remember His greatness and honor Him as the ultimate Savior and Lord. Help us live with hearts of gratitude and dedication, reflecting His love and grace to the world. In Jesus' name, Amen.
