“Then the Spirit entered me when He spoke to me and set me on my feet; and I heard Him who spoke to me.”
Ezekiel 2:2 (NKJV)
Ezekiel testifies that as God spoke to him, the Spirit entered him. This highlights the profound connection between God’s Word and His Spirit. The Word of God is not merely information or sound; it is a carrier of His Spirit. As Jesus said in John 6:63, “The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” Each time we engage with God’s Word, there is the potential for the Spirit of God to enter us, bringing life, transformation, and empowerment.
Beyond just hearing words, Ezekiel experienced the Spirit's entrance through those words. This illustrates that when God speaks, something divine occurs. Some make the mistake of interacting with The Word of God solely for intellectual understanding. But those who do this miss out on a lot—they miss out on the life and power that the Word of God carries and conveys. When we truly receive the Word, the Spirit of God can take over, changing us from the inside out, just as it did for Ezekiel.
When we truly receive the Word, the Spirit of God can take over, changing us from the inside out, just as it did for Ezekiel.
The verse continues by stating that the Spirit set Ezekiel on his feet. This symbolizes empowerment. The Holy Spirit doesn’t merely enter to impart knowledge; He comes to strengthen us, to uplift us, and to enable us to stand firm. The Spirit equips us to face challenges, carry out God’s assignments, and stand strong in faith. Ezekiel couldn’t stand on his own; it was the Spirit that lifted him. Similarly, we may confront situations that seem impossible in our own strength, but the Spirit empowers us to rise.
To truly access the deep things of God, we must do so in the Spirit. As mentioned in Revelation 4, John was taken "in the Spirit" to witness divine revelations. Likewise, Ezekiel was carried out by the Spirit in Ezekiel 37. The Holy Spirit is our means of entering God's presence, understanding His will, and moving in His power. Living life in the Spirit means being open to the divine guidance, revelations, and strength that God provides.
The same Spirit that entered Ezekiel and empowered him is the Spirit that resides in you today. This is your assurance of hope, transformation, and divine enablement to fulfill God's purpose for your life. Begin to approach The Word and prayer differently, leaning into the power and life that it carries. Begin to desire its manifestation in your life and you too will be set on your feet like Ezekiel.
