Following the Blueprint

Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come— In the volume of the book, it is written of Me—

To do Your will, O God.’

Hebrews 1:7 NKJV

A blueprint serves as a guiding framework for crafting something — it is a design or pattern that is expected to be followed. Another definition explains it as a photographic print that serves as a model for guidance. For any believer, the only blueprint to have is the word of God. You can never go wrong with God’s word no matter what is happening around you. The safest place to look when there is confusion on what to do, is in the Word of God.

When a machine breaks down, the first step is to look for the blueprint or what is sometimes called the manufacturer’s manual. Following that carefully provides a clue to what could have gone wrong and how to get things back to their default working state. The believer’s life journey is like that.

Unfortunately, most people focus on the problem, look around the problem, think about the problem, worry about the problem, talk about the problem, or even cry about the problem, do every other thing except reading the manufacturer’s blueprint—the Word of God. It is only the word of God that can direct you in your life's purpose, how it should be and provide the solution to get you back on track in life.

What is the first thing that you do when things do not seem to work the way you desire? Complain? Feel sad? Worry? All these feelings are like what was described above - looking around the problem without following the blueprint.

Here is a story that further explains today’s teaching in John 9:1-3:

Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.

So let us examine this short story in its context. Here we see a problem or situation – a man blind from birth. This is followed by several guesses from the disciples – sin, the man’s sins, and finally the parent’s sins. Most of us are like this, taking guesses at life.

Instead of responding to life’s challenges with guesswork, it is essential to refer to what God has designed for you through His Word. In whatever you are going through, your first response must be to look at what God said concerning that matter in His word.

Our anchor text in Hebrews 1:7 reinforces this. There are things that have been written about you, about your life and about that next step you are about to take that you can only find them in the Word of God. Make a commitment today to seek answers first from God’s word, and also to not end each day without reading your Bible.

Song of Worship

In Christ alone, my hope is found. He is my light, my strength, my song.

This Cornerstone, this solid ground. Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.

What heights of love, what depths of peace. When fears are stilled, when strivings cease.

My Comforter, my All in All. Here in the love of Christ I stand.

Song by Adrienne Camp and Geoff Moore & The Distance

Prayer - Lord help me to always look into your Word daily so I can see who You have made me to be. Instead of fixating on my problems, give me the grace to be consistent and always follow after You.  Amen
