Knowing the Season

September 06, 2024

" of the sons of Issachar who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, their chiefs were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their command;"

 - I Chronicles 12:32 NKJV

For most people living in the West, especially in Canada, the weather app is one of the most important things to pay attention to, especially during the shift from winter to spring. You could have a warm day only to have a cold and windy evening. Worse still, you might wake up on the morrow to a heavily snowy day. From what to wear to where to go to what to have with you as you go out, having a weather prediction app helps you understand how to conduct yourself. Seasons not only determine what you do, they also affect how you do almost everything.

Likewise, the third chapter of the book Ecclesiastes tells us about life’s different seasons. From that scripture, it is clear that there is a right action for each. If acting right in every season was easy, the scripture would not have emphasized it. Knowing what to do is probably the most important reason for understanding the times.

Knowing what to do is probably the most important reason for understanding the times.

As Christians, the importance of understanding the season and knowing what to do extends beyond our personal lives to our families, the church, the community, and even our nations. The sons of Issachar knew and commanded Israel on the next line of action in their time. They modelled the kind of people that we need to be for our generation.

God is looking for people to stand in the gap for our generation. Ezekiel 22:30 “So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.”

Life in these times can be confusing for a lot of people. This directly implies that there is a call for us not to only find out God’s direction for our individual lives but also to be intercessors and seers for our generation. It is a call to be on the lookout for the body of Christ.

It is time to take responsibility for our generation and fulfill our mandates as kings and priests on the earth.

Song of Worship

God, I look to You. I won't be overwhelmed

Give me vision to see things like You do

God, I look to You. You're where my help comes from

Give me wisdom, You know just what to do

Song by Bethel Music

Prayer - Dear Lord, give us the wisdom, discernment and capacity to guide our families, churches and communities into the right paths in these times. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
