"And the servant ran to meet her and said, “Please let me drink a little water from your pitcher.” So she said, “Drink, my lord.” Then she quickly let her pitcher down to her hand and gave him a drink. "
- Genesis 24:17-18 (NKJV)
Wisdom is a powerful and attractive trait, especially in relationships. Proverbs 4:7 reminds us that “wisdom is the principal thing; therefore, get wisdom.” For women seeking to build meaningful relationships or deepen their marriages, wisdom manifests in both words and actions. Genesis 24 introduces Rebekah, whose wisdom and humility exemplify qualities that attract and sustain godly relationships.
When Abraham's servant asked Rebekah for water, her response was gracious and respectful: “Drink, my lord.” Her choice of words displayed humility, honor, and wisdom. The way you speak to others, especially a potential partner or spouse, reveals your heart. Ephesians 4:29 encourages us to speak words that build others up. Men, like all people, respond positively to words of affirmation, respect, and encouragement.
Single Women: Speak with kindness and grace, demonstrating respect in your interactions.
Married Women: Continue to honor your spouse with uplifting words, even in mundane or challenging situations.
The foundation of lasting relationships is wisdom.
Rebekah’s actions were swift, thoughtful, and generous. She didn’t question the servant’s request or hesitate to help. Her actions spoke volumes about her character and wisdom. Wisdom in action means going beyond mere words—it is shown through kindness, thoughtfulness, and intentional deeds. A woman of wisdom knows how to act in ways that inspire respect and admiration.
Abigail in 1 Samuel 25 used her wisdom and quick thinking to prevent David from committing an act he would regret. Her actions not only saved her household but also earned David's respect. Similarly, your actions can either build or break trust in your relationships.
Attraction may begin with physical beauty, but wisdom sustains relationships. Proverbs 31:26 (NKJV) says of the virtuous woman: “She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of kindness.” Wisdom helps you navigate conflicts, express appreciation, and build a foundation of mutual respect. A man will always return to a place where he feels celebrated and valued.
The foundation of lasting relationships is wisdom. It transforms words into encouragement, actions into kindness, and moments into opportunities for love and connection. Cultivate wisdom and see how it enriches your life and the lives of those around you.
