Operating with Blessings

So he went to him and kissed him. When Isaac caught the smell of his clothes, he blessed him and said,"Ah, the smell of my son is like the smell of a field that the Lord has blessed. May God give you heaven’s dew and earth’s richness—an abundance of grain and new wine. May nations serve you and people bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers, and may the sons of your mother bow down to you. May those who curse you be cursed and those who bless you be blessed.

 - Genesis 27: 27- 29

Our first Biblical encounter with the word ‘blessing’ comes in Genesis 1:28. Based on the instructions God gives to Adam; a blessing is a set of favorable words spoken deliberately to shape a destiny, color a future and to position a person for exploits.

In a blessing, one can find prophetic instructions, prophetic commands, a prophetic scope of work and/or a blueprint where anything contrary is not of God and should not be accepted. The essence of a blessing is to create expectations – these expectations will act as a roadmap in reaching what God has set in place for us.

One can either go through life with or without blessing. To be without blessings is to move in a directionless path and life without direction brings trouble with it. A good example of this is Esau, who missed the blessing of his father Isaac. Enter Jacob – his brother, who manifested the blessings he received from their father through hard work. Being blessed does not exempt you from hard work, however the blessing ensures that your efforts are accelerated by God.

To be without blessings is to move in a directionless path and life without direction brings trouble with it.

God’s blessings are not restrictive in nature. They are spiritual assets that can be accumulated and transferred. Still looking at the path of Jacob, even though he left home with only a stick and Isaac’s blessing, he seized opportunities to receive more blessings from God through a dream at Bethel, and from the angel through wrestling at Peniel. Jacob was also able to dispense his accumulated blessings to his twelve sons. God’s blessings go beyond lineages if you are correctly positioned to receive it.

Our wills and testaments should contain more than material things. We should strive to equip our children with God’s blessing. His blessings are irrevocable and cannot be brought before the law court. God’s blessings open doors to both the physical and the supernatural. It is a stamp of approval that He sees you and has chosen to make your life a testament of his goodness. May the blessings of the Lord come upon our lives in Jesus’ name, Amen.
