“But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.”
- Luke 5:5 (NKJV)
Often, we find it difficult to comply with God's instructions, especially when we have experienced failure or when the timing seems wrong. However, the key to overcoming this hesitation lies in trusting and obeying God's word, even when it doesn't make sense.
In Luke 5:5, Simon Peter expresses his reluctance to try again after a night of fruitless labour. His fear of failure was evident, yet he decides to obey Jesus' command. His initial response highlights his awareness of past failures. He didn't want to face another potential failure, but he chose to trust Jesus' word. Despite his doubt, Simon Peter obeyed because he recognizes the authority in Jesus' word. This act of obedience leads to a miraculous catch of fish —demonstrating the power of faith.
According to Proverbs 24:16, the Bible says, "a righteous person may fall seven times but will rise again". This resilience is crucial in our walk with God. Failure is not the end; it’s an opportunity to learn and grow. Each time we get back up, we demonstrate our faith and trust in God’s plan for us.
Obeying God's word requires faith, especially when we face the fear of failure.
Moses initially failed in Egypt and fled. When God called him again, he was hesitant, fearing failure. Yet, God backed him up with signs and wonders to fulfill his mission. God calls us to be bold and courageous, especially when facing challenges. This boldness is essential for all, but even more so for those with families, as they lead and provide. Men are often looked upon as leaders in their families and communities. In times of difficulty, they need to rely on God's strength and wisdom to guide them.
Even when faced with uncertainty, we are called to obey God's word. Just like Simon Peter, we must be willing to act on God's commands, trusting that He will bring about the desired outcome.
Obeying God's word requires faith, especially when we face the fear of failure. Remember that God's wisdom surpasses our understanding, and His plans for us are always for our good. As we trust and obey, we will see His miraculous work in our lives, leading us to victory.
