Principles of approach to God’s presence: Entering the brazen altar by the blood of Jesus II

April 07, 2025

“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.”

Ephesians 1: 7 (NKJV)

The journey into God’s presence is one of thankfulness, reverence and grace. In the time of Moses, after giving thanks (see yesterday’s devotional), worshippers approached the brazen altar, a place of sacrifice and purification. This altar stood before the entrance to the inner courts of the tabernacle, where only the priest could enter. However, before stepping into the holy place, the priest had to first be cleansed at the altar. Today, we no longer require animal sacrifices. Instead, through the blood of Jesus Christ, we have a perfect and everlasting sacrifice. His blood cleanses us, protects us, and grants us access to God’s presence.

The brazen altar in the tabernacle served a vital role: it symbolized the need for purification before approaching our holy God. Sin created a barrier between us and God, but through the sacrificial system, God provided a way for temporary cleansing. Today, we have the ultimate sacrifice Jesus, the Lamb of God. His blood was shed so that we could be redeemed and forgiven.

The blood of Jesus cleanses us, protects us, and grants us access to God’s presence.

The Bible reminds us in 1 John 1:7-9 that the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin. When we plead the blood of Jesus, the weight of guilt and shame is removed. The blood of Jesus is also a source of protection. Just as the Israelites were shielded from destruction by the blood on their doorposts during the Passover (Exodus 12:13), we are protected through the finished work of the blood of Jesus. Additionally, Hebrews 10:19 tells us that we can confidently enter the holy place because of His blood. No longer are we distant from God; we can boldly approach Him by the blood of Jesus.

So, how does truth apply to our lives today? Maybe you feel unworthy or burdened by past mistakes. Perhaps you struggle with doubt, wondering if God truly accepts you. Remember that Jesus has already done everything necessary for you to stand in God’s presence. Take time today to plead the blood of Jesus over your life. Let it cleanse your heart of sin, shield you from fear and anxiety, and draw you closer into the presence of God.

Song of Worship

The blood of Jesus sets me free from sin and sorrow,

The blood of Jesus sets me free.

Prayer -  Lord, I thank You for the blood of Jesus that cleanses, protects, and grants me access to Your presence. I plead His blood over every part of my life. Help me to walk confidently, knowing that I am forgiven in Jesus’s name. Amen.
