Prophetic Declarations

November 09, 2024

" It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.’’

- John 6:63 (KJV)

And he said, ‘Open the east window’; and he opened it. Then Elisha said, ‘Shoot’; and he shot. And he said, ‘The arrow of the Lord’s deliverance and the arrow of deliverance from Syria; for you must strike the Syrians at Aphek till you have destroyed them.’” — 2 Kings 13:17 NKJV

From the above passage, we see prophetic instructions in the forms of “Open the east window” and “Shoot.” Thereafter, Elisha began to utter bold statements, known as prophetic declarations. These declarations are power-backed utterances with the potential to enforce a change. Prophetic declarations provide the fuel through which the mechanics of prophetic instructions operate.

One of the mysteries of such declarations is that they seem simple in themselves. This simplicity is why many do not experience the advantages they confer. Sometimes, these declarations may not even make sense to natural logic. How do you tell a ninety-year-old woman that she would conceive naturally? Sarah felt the same way in Genesis 18:10-14; she laughed!

There is power in spoken words.

What about you? What comes to mind when you hear those bold prophetic words declared by your Pastor? What is your reaction when positive words are spoken over you?

Perhaps you have heard these prophetic declarations before and thought they were merely a stir of emotions. They are not. These are the utterances of God vocalized by a man. You must be sensitive enough to recognize when God is turning things around for you through the prophetic. There is power in spoken words. If only you can believe, a single word is enough to change your life.

In 2 Kings 4:15-17, Elisha made a bold prophetic declaration to the Shunammite woman, telling her she would conceive and bear a son within a year. Just like many today, the woman responded, “No, my lord. Man of God, do not lie to your maidservant!” She had come to accept the problem as a part of her life for her own sanity. Perhaps the doctors had told her she had no chance of conceiving.

This response reflects two things: doubt regarding the words spoken and a struggle to accept the truth of the declaration – “do not lie to your maidservant.”

If you have struggled with believing God’s prophetic word over you, it is perfectly fine to revisit the prophetic words you have heard before – this time with faith and expectation. The world was framed by the Word. The words declared over you are Spirit, and they are life. May you receive a testimony today through the prophetic in Jesus' name.

Song of Worship

God cannot lie

His words will surely come to pass

Because He is not a man

Prayer - Lord, I receive the prophetic declarations with faith in my heart. May these words birth a testimony in my life and family in Jesus' name.
