Provoking Dominion through Praise

September 27, 2024

" Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength,

Because of Your enemies,

That You may silence the enemy and the avenger.”

 - Psalm 8:2 (NKJV)

As believers, we possess great strength and can provoke dominion over all situations. This strength is activated through the praise in our mouth.  We see an example of this in Mathew 21:16 when Jesus quoted the exact words in our anchor text, “Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have perfected praise”

Let us take a moment to examine the description of babes and nursing infants so that we can understand what God is saying. The stage of infancy or being a nursing-baby can be likened to a phase of immaturity - a state of fragility and a period of dependency. Babies are not able to comprehend their identity, ability, or status. In other words, a baby or child of a king has no idea about his or her identity, royalty, and dominion.  Likewise, as human beings, there are times and seasons of life when we go through seasons that make us feel helpless, weak, or downcast like babies, or times when we cannot see ourselves the way that God see us.

There is power and dominion in your praise!

Even in those moments, we can provoke power and dominion if there is praise in our mouth. Irrespective of your current situation or your level of spiritual maturity, God is saying that there is strength in your mouth. There is power and dominion in your praise!

Why then should we keep praising God? We praise God to engage His manifest presence. Psalms 22:3 tells us that God is enthroned in the praises of His people. Similarly, Psalms 76:1 says that “in Judah (praise), God is known”. This means that God has residence, and that residence is called praise. When you are seeking God and it seems like He is far away, praise is a guaranteed way to find Him and call his attention to your situation. Praise guarantees God’s presence and whenever God arises, victory is established!

We also praise God so that we can have dominion. This is the key point in today’s devotion. Praise honours God and praise brings God’s manifest presence to the scene, but praise is also a powerful weapon. Despite our situation and the challenges that life throws at us, God expects us to maintain a posture of praise. When we praise Him, we are turning our battle towards God. A joyful heart full of praise generates victory over life’s situations and challenges.  This is how we rule and dominate!
