"Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not Do."serve before officials of low rank"
- Proverbs 22:29 (NIV)
Excellence is the quality of being outstanding, exceptional or extraordinary. It defines the nature of God we are commanded to demonstrate as believers. One of the ways we can gain speed in life is through living a life of excellence. As Christians, when we stand out, we are propagating the gospel. The world is watching as we strive for excellence and we have to do our best in order to be the best testimony for our magnificent God. God does not occasionally do things that are excellent; God is excellent at all times and as a result, everything He does reflects that excellence. We serve an excellent God. Everything He created is good.
Exodus 15:11 "Who among the gods is like you, Lord? Who is like you — ”majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders?"
In the Old Testament, one of the examples of a man having an excellent spirit is none other than Daniel. Daniel’s spirit was the result of the way he handled himself, and the way he treated other people, and most of all, the manner in which he served his God. Dan 1:19 The king talked with them, and he found none equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah; so they entered the king’s service.
Excellence promotes ease of accessibility to the Holy Spirit.
Excellence determines who you serve. This is a call to change your life if you do not like who you serve. Daniel was taken in captivity to Babylon while he was still a youth. But in the midst of exile and foreign control and hostilities, he made a choice to excel. He stood tall and served four different kings, from King Nebuchadnezzar to King Belshazzar (son of Nebuchadnezzar) to King Darius and finally King Cyrus. Simply because Daniel possessed the spirit of excellence and lasting quality, he was able to serve four successive kings! As believers, we can also like Daniel, live a life of excellence by renewing our minds or training in our areas of expertise and be devoted to it consistently. Dan 1:4, a life of excellence is a life of devotion.
An excellent spirit is not determined by the circumstances. An excellent spirit impacts the circumstances. It is how we have chosen to live regardless of the situation we have found ourselves in. Excellence promotes ease of accessibility to the Holy Spirit. A person who chooses to develop an excellent spirit in his life is one who wants to give his life to be led by the Spirit of God. Excellence at the highest level, is defined as a spirit. For us as Christians, that spirit is the spirit of God.
Song of Worship
Who is like unto thee, O Lord?
Who is like unto thee, O Lord?
Among the gods, who is like thee?
Glorious in holiness, fearful in praises,
Doing wonders, Alleluia!
Prayer - Dear Lord, give us your divine nature so that everything that flows out of us will be marked by your excellent nature. May we determine today to have an excellent spirit. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
