“By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.”
- Hebrews 11:7 (NKJV)
Sometimes, God allows our faith to be tested to reveal where our hearts truly are and to deepen our dependence on Him. Other times, trials come as attacks from the enemy, aiming to weaken our faith and cause us to give up. One of the greatest challenges our faith can face is delay. Delay can be frustrating, confusing, and even discouraging. At times, it may seem like God is answering others for the same things we desire while we remain in wait.
Consider the story of Noah. Theologians estimate that he spent between 50 to 100 years building the ark. In those days, rain had never been seen, so the people around him likely thought he was out of his mind. Yet, Noah held on to God’s word despite the mockery and the long wait. In Matthew 24:37-39, the Bible tells us that the people of Noah’s time continued with life as usual - eating, drinking, and marrying - while ignoring Noah’s warnings. Delay can dull our sensitivity to God’s promises, leading us to accept our circumstances instead of holding steadfastly to His word.
God’s timing is never a mistake. His delays are not denials
We see another example in John 5:5-7, where a man with an infirmity had been waiting for healing at the pool of Bethesda for 38 years. When Jesus asked him if he wanted to be made well, his response did not clearly reflect a direct “yes.” Long seasons of waiting can cause us to lose sight of what we are even asking God for. The pain of delay can steal our confidence, making us settle for less than what God has promised. But remember, God’s timing is never a mistake. His delays are not denials, and His silence is not absence.
Proverbs 13:12 says, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick…” This is why we must guard our hearts during seasons of waiting. The enemy will use delay to plant doubt, fear, and discouragement, but we must stand firm on God’s word, for His promises will surely come to pass!
If you are in a season of waiting, do not let delay shake your faith. Instead, use this time to draw closer to God. Strengthen yourself in prayer, immerse yourself in His word, and encourage yourself with testimonies of His faithfulness. Keep believing that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion (Philippians 1:6).
Song of Worship
He has promised He will never fail.
I will trust in Him,
I will trust in Him.
My God has promised
He will never fail,
His faithfulness is forever more,
His faithfulness is forever more.
Prayer - My faith is strengthened in Jesus' name! I will not waver because I know that my God is faithful. Amen.
