“For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day”
- 2 Corinthians 4:16 (KJV)
Paul starts by declaring that “we faint not.” In the face of trials, discouragement, and suffering, the temptation to give up can be strong. But as believers, we are called to persist, knowing that there is an inner strength that sustains us. Many give up just before they reach their miracle, but Paul urges us not to faint. Endurance in faith is crucial.
Paul explains that two realities are operating in every believer—the outward man and the inward man. The outward man refers to the physical body, which is subject to decay, weariness, and challenges. It experiences aging, sickness, and hardship. But at the same time, the inward man—our spirit—is being renewed day by day. As the physical may weaken, the spirit is strengthened. This duality reminds us that while the external may be fragile, God’s work within us is ongoing and eternal.
Even when life seems overwhelming, the Holy Spirit empowers us, reminding us of God’s promises and giving us the strength to persevere.
The secret to not fainting is found in this daily renewal of the inward man. God is constantly renewing, reviving, and refreshing our inner being through His Spirit. Even when life seems overwhelming, the Holy Spirit empowers us, reminding us of God’s promises and giving us the strength to persevere. The more we focus on our inward renewal, the less we are affected by the perishing outward circumstances.
The physical realm often bombards us with reasons to give up. Challenges, sickness, financial issues, and fears might make it seem like everything is collapsing. But there is a different realm—the realm of the spirit—where God is actively working. Paul calls us to look beyond what is visible and temporary to the unseen and eternal. It’s in this spiritual realm that we find hope, faith, and the promises of God.
In your daily life, you may feel the weight of circumstances pressing on you—the outward man may seem weak or fading. But remember that your strength does not come from your outward condition; it comes from the Spirit of God renewing you from the inside. Stay connected to God’s Word, meditate on His promises, and allow His Spirit to strengthen your inner being day by day.
No matter how your outward man feels, your inward man is where victory lies. The more you focus on spiritual renewal, the stronger your faith will become, enabling you to face any challenge.
