Subdue by Faith

"By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter,’’

- Hebrews 11:29 (NIV)

Previously, we established that the flesh and the Spirit are at war, with the mind serving as a battleground for our choices. Today, we will explore how to subdue both the mind and the kingdoms of this world through faith. We will examine the characteristics of the faith that prevails over the flesh, sin, and Satan. One biblical figure who exemplified this is Moses.

Our anchor text begins with the phrase, "when he became of age." This signifies Moses's maturation and understanding. When he realized his true identity, he was able to stand firm and declare who he was. Romans 6:6 tells us, "Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin." This indicates that the power of the flesh and sin no longer has dominion over us. Knowledge is crucial in overcoming the desires of the flesh. The journey to victory over worldly lusts begins with understanding. Sin no longer has authority over you; you have already overcome; old things have passed away, and you are now a new creation.

Just as Moses rejected false associations, we too must refuse to succumb to sin and the flesh’s dictates.

"For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace." - Romans 6:14 (NKJV)

The second part of our text states that Moses "refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter." The key here is his refusal. Whenever he was addressed as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, he asserted his true identity. Just as he rejected false associations, we too must refuse to succumb to sin and the flesh’s dictates. When your thoughts wander toward actions that do not please God, stand firm and say no. Like Moses, we must learn to say ‘NO’ to anger, sin, envy, etc.

In Luke 4, Jesus responded with Scripture He faced temptation. He did not remain silent or dwell on the devil's suggestions. Similarly, when negative thoughts invade your mind, speak back with the Word of God and assert your identity in Christ. By doing this, you relieve the pressure to sin.

"But they were insistent, demanding with loud voices that He be crucified. And the voices of these men and of the chief priests prevailed." - Luke 23:23 (NKJV)

This passage illustrates that until the voices of the crowd grew louder, Pilate hesitated to pass judgment on Jesus. When negative thoughts flood your mind, don’t merely think about them; speak against them. Ensure that your voice prevails over every thought and suggestion that crosses your mind. Speak up and declare the truth of God’s Word over your life!
