" Jesus got into the boat again and went back to the other side of the lake, where a large crowd gathered around him on the shore. Then a leader of the local synagogue, whose name was Jairus, arrived. When he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet, pleading fervently with him. “My little daughter is dying,” he said. “Please come and lay your hands on her; heal her so she can live”
- Mark 5: 21- 23 (NLT)
The whole identity of trouble is to challenge the dominion that we have. Trouble brings disorder, destruction, chaos and pain. Goliath was trouble for the Israelites, he was proud and arrogant. In his arrogance he taunted everyone in Israel and revelled in the fact that he was troublesome – 1 Samuel 17:8 -10. There is Pharaoh who was also proud and arrogant – a true troublemaker for Israel, in Exodus 5:2 he said ‘’who is the Lord that I should obey his voice to let Israel go?’’.
Trouble is a harasser. Even in the presence of Jesus, trouble still looms. In verses 35 and 36 of our text, Jairus was with Jesus, and yet, trouble still came for him in form of bad news about his daughter. In Job 1:6, when the sons of God appeared before God, Satan (trouble) was also present.
In Mark 9:20 the tormenting spirits still manifested even in the presence of Jesus! Trouble does not leave just because we have come into the house of God. What we need is to exercise our dominion over trouble.
Trouble can affect all areas of life, and apart from being a time waster, it can also damage man’s entire being.
Trouble can affect the spirit of Man. In Genesis 45:27, Jacob’s spirit was revived when he got the news that his son was still alive. This suggests that all those years he thought his son was dead, his spirit was asleep or even worse, dead. Perhaps this was why he could not hear from God, because as soon as his spirit was revived God appeared to him again Genesis 46 :1 - 3. If the spirit is damaged, it is nearly impossible to commune with God. God is a spirit and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth.
Trouble can affect the soul of man. In Matthew 26:38 the trouble of the cross caused Jesus’ soul to be distressed. It can also affect the body, In Mark 5:23, Jairus’s daughter was losing her life and in verses 25 – 26 we find the woman with the issue of blood that had plagued her for twelve years.
Trouble can affect all areas of life, and apart from being a time waster, it can also damage man’s entire being. We must persist in the place of prayer, confront, and have dominion entirely over trouble. May God help us in Jesus’ name.
Song of Worship
I know who God says I am, what He says I am
Where He says I'm at, I know who I am – 2x
I'm working in power, I'm working in miracles
I live a life of favour, for I know who I am – 2x
Song I know who I am by Sinach
