The Demonstration of Dominion I—Renewing the Mind

"Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

 - Genesis 1:26

The first time we see the word “DOMINION” in the Bible was in Genesis 1:26 when God told Adam to have dominion. Dominion means to subjugate or to bring something under your control. It is stepping into all that God has placed inside of you.

Today we will explore how the Bible instructs us to have dominion and control over any challenges in our lives or circumstances, mirroring God’s example in Genesis. Starting with the first of 3 core principles for demonstrating dominion—Renewing your mind.

The first step to demonstrating dominion is to renew our minds. The Bible instructs us on the critical nature of this principle in the book of Romans.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2 NIV).

Dominion is part of our DNA; it is ingrained in us from the time of creation. Afterall, we were made in the image of God and dominion spoken over us as we saw in the main text for today. Yet, as we see in Romans 12:2, there is a need for deliberate transformation.

This transformation is in the realm of our thoughts. Our thought patterns need to become aligned perfectly with the truth and vision that God has for our lives. We must be bold in embracing a mindset of victory and possibility and rejecting negative self-talk. We must be fixated on transforming our thinking and bringing them into alignment with God’s truth.

Some of the ways to do this is to become conscious of your inner thought life. Catch yourself when you find yourself thinking or saying things contrary to God’s word of dominion for your life. If you need to make it a screensaver on your phone or put a sticky note on your computer or mirror, do it. If it means having a worship dance party in your kitchen or car or creating a vision board, do it.

Base it all on the faultless foundation of Scripture. Engage with God’s truth and keep all of God’s truth and promises front and centre.

Before long, you will find your mind being renewed and you becoming transformed to a person of dominion.

Song of Worship

You unravel me with a melody; You surround me with a song

Of deliverance from my enemies; Till all my fears are gone

I'm no longer a slave to fear I am a child of God

I'm no longer a slave to fear I am a child of God

Song: “No Longer Slaves" by Bethel Music

Prayer - We boldly declare all of God’s promises over our lives. I speak over my mind now—receive the promises of God. And I receive the grace of God and the strength to conform my mind to the mind of God regarding my life. In Jesus Name.
