"When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched his garment."
- Mark 5:27
The healing of the woman that suffered from a flow of blood for twelve years in Mark 5:25-34 reveals that we receive, by faith, that which we seek God for. How so? A careful study of this passage of Scripture shows that receiving our miracle starts with hearing. Mark 5:27a “When she heard about Jesus…”. Hearing is critical in generating faith that provokes the works of God.
The Bible records in Romans 10:17 “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God”. Whenever the Word of God is preached, read or taught, it is important that we add belief to what we hear so that it can be profitable to us.
Hebrews 4:2 says, “For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it”. It is the belief in the Word that we have heard that gives birth to faith.
It is the belief in the Word that we have heard that gives birth to faith.
To ‘hear’ means to perceive with one’s ears, to be informed or made aware, to discover, learn or to understand someone or something. To ‘believe’ means to hold something as true, to be confident in or to have conviction in something.
When you hear the Word of God, you are made aware of the power of God to do the miraculous. When you believe the Word of God, you demonstrate faith for the miraculous to take place in your life. It starts with hearing. “Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?” (Galatians 3:5).
The woman heard about Jesus. Scripture records that Jesus’ fame had spread throughout the region (Mark 1:28). His reputation for healing the sick, raising the dead, setting captives free, and turning situations around had gone before Him. Regarding her condition, she convinced herself of what she had heard about Jesus. She acted on that conviction, and it led to her being healed even in the midst of a crowd.
What have you heard about Jesus in your spirit regarding a situation you are going through or a condition you are in? As Christians, we should pay attention to what we hear. Our enemy specializes in lacing the airwaves with unprofitable content that can stifle the birth of faith.
We must encourage ourselves by actively listening to the Word of God and the testimonies of other Christians, especially on issues similar to what we are facing. These help to bolster our faith when we make our petition before God, giving us the confidence we need to receive our miracle!
Song of Worship
I’ve heard about You (x3)
That’s why I am here
I’ve heard about You (x3)
That’s why I am here.
Prayer - Dear Lord, thank You for the understanding that birthing faith for my miracle starts with hearing Your Word. May Your Word therefore generate the faith within me for my miracle in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.
