The Essence of God’s Blessings

“And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: “Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, ‘This is the way you shall bless the children of Israel. Say to them: “The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.” “So they shall put My name on the children of Israel, and I will bless them.”

- Numbers 6: 22- 27 (NKJV)

To be blessed by God means understanding the significance of the image we bear as His children. This understanding distinguishes a person, setting them apart for success rather than failure. A blessing from God offers us fruitfulness, multiplication and dominion over all living and non-living things. In the referenced text, God’s instruction to Aaron and his sons through Moses demonstrates God's desire to bless and protect His people.

What is the basis of God’s blessing? There is an instruction and a position to be in to give or receive a blessing. The pronouncement came from the servants of God and in various instances in the Bible, we also see the role of parents in the pronouncement of God’s blessings. For instance, Isaiah and Jacob both made pronouncements that shaped the destinies of their children. Hence, it is important to understand the importance of our spiritual leaders and parents in our lives to avoid bringing curses instead of blessings upon ourselves.

To be blessed by God means understanding our identity as His children, bringing fruitfulness and favor.

The essence of the blessing is to have God's name placed upon us, bringing Him glory. This signifies that through this blessing, God's name—and therefore His presence—rests upon His people, marking them as His own and ensuring His ongoing favor. It means that we live with a clear understanding of our identity in Christ—blessed and highly favored. Even when it does not look like it, we are blessed. In all that concerns us, His name is upon us, and He will bless us.

Today, we are encouraged to approach life knowing that we are backed by the Most High God who has put His name upon us. We are blessed!
