The Gift of Relationships

The Lord God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.’”

- Genesis 2: 18 (KJV)

As believers, our most important relationship is with God. However, we can become so focused on this relationship that we overlook the other vital connections God has provided for us. In Matthew 22:39, alongside the command to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind, Jesus adds another important directive: “And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”

It is crucial that we pay attention to the relationships God has placed in our lives. In His infinite wisdom, God designed us for community from the very beginning. Genesis 2:18 highlights this by stating that it is not good for man to be alone, emphasizing the importance of human connections.

Isolation is not God’s plan for us; rather, it is an enemy tactic. By separating us from meaningful relationships, the enemy seeks to weaken and eliminate us. In contrast, relationships are part of God’s strategy to fulfill His purposes in our lives. Even Moses, who spoke to God face to face, needed help from his father-in-law to bring structure to the camp of Israel.

You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

Understanding that God places us in relationships to accomplish His purposes—often beyond our immediate understanding—is vital. A prime example is the bond between Mordecai and Esther. Their relationship was instrumental in the deliverance of the Jews under Persian rule. Similarly, God positions people in our lives to help fulfill not only our personal objectives but also our kingdom assignments. Recognizing and nurturing these relationships is crucial for our success.

Take a moment to evaluate the relationships in your life. Are you isolating yourself, or are you allowing God to use others to bless and guide you? Pray today, asking God to help you identify and appreciate the people He has placed around you. Embrace community, maximize the gift of relationships, and trust in God’s divine design for your life.
