"Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song, and His praise in the assembly of saints."
- Psalms 149:1 (NKJV)
Our anchor text for today is prescriptive. Like medicine is to the body, so is praise to our soul. It is a dose we must take daily to maintain wholeness in every aspect of our lives. When we offer praise unto God, we are helping our soul, just like taking medicine for an illness.
There is a mystery in praises that can subdue the issues you are going through. To reinforce this, let us look through the first part of our anchor text for today; Praise the Lord! The exclamation mark at the end of that statement means there should be some feeling of excitement when you praise the Lord. Praising God must be done with joy even though you are surrounded by oceans of sadness. You can praise God while sitting down, but this type of praise in Psalm 149:1 requires an unashamed expression of joy, jumping up on your feet, giving glory to God.
Then David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was wearing a linen ephod. So, David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the trumpet - 2 Samuel 6:14-15 NKJV
Whether we are abased or abound, nothing should take the place of giving praises to God.
In the above scripture, David praised the Lord, He was a King which means he had all he needed; he was in control. David lacked neither servant not men around him nor could be described as a typical fulfilled man in today’s terms. He had just retrieved the ark of the Lord and could not contain his gratitude to God. In 2 Samuel 6:16 & 23, when Michal, Saul’s daughter mocked and despised David because of how he was giving God praise, she died a barren woman. This shows the potency and power of praise. When you are filled and satisfied, when you now have what you have been praying for, that is the time to intensify your praise.
On the other side of this view, we would also consider a man called Job that praised God amid series of losses. Many in his time would have labelled him a loser yet he gave God praise. Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped - Job 1:20 KJV
Whether we are abased or abound, nothing should take the place of giving praises to God. In whatever situation or circumstance, we are in, praises to God must always be on our lips. Today, praise God for what He did in times past, for what He is doing right now that you are aware of or those you have no knowledge of. Lastly, praise Him for what He is yet to do. Put an excitement on your praise to God. o help you if you are willing to do the work.
