“But the children of Israel were fruitful and increased abundantly, multiplied and grew exceedingly mighty; and the land was filled with them. Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. And he said to his people, “Look, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we; come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and it happen, in the event of war, that they also join our enemies and fight against us, and so go up out of the land.”'
- Exodus 1: 7-10 (NKJV)
Increase is an expression of dominion as Christians. One of the ways of showing that we carry the dominion of God is by increasing. Increase is not limited to finances - it cuts across physical health, education and even mindset. As children of God, we have been assigned a kingdom mandate to dominate in all spheres of life.
However, with this responsibility comes the attack of the enemy. This is because the enemy is offended when we take up our mantle to increase. This attack, though intended to sow doubt, is a key to our increase. If the enemy does not attack, then nothing will change in our lives.
In Genesis 31:2, Laban’s countenance changed towards Jacob because he had increased despite the hardship he had meted out on him. Do not mind the irritation of the enemy. This is normal as nobody is interested in failure, but increase attracts attack.
We must be mindful that Increase shows strength and an understanding of whose image and likeness we represent. God has provided each of us talents and skills that should fuel our dominion and increase. But many times, we fail to fertilize these gifts.
Increase is an expression of dominion as Christians.
Increase is deliberate and requires hard work. As much as we are to pray without ceasing, we also must work our talents and skills to achieve increase. We can see this in The Parable of the Barren Fig Tree where the keeper of the vineyard asked that he dig around and fertilize the tree to bear fruit (Luke 13: 6-9). We must be intentional about our increase because God does not appreciate waste. Indeed, rejecting or shying away from using your gifts to bring about increase is described as wickedness in the Bible. (Matthew 25: 24-28)
God has an expectation of superior results and delivery from us. Stop the self-sabotage and excuses of fear. Pick up your mantle, work your skills and watch God bless the works of your hands in Jesus’ name, Amen.
