“Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.”
- Proverbs 20:11 (KJV)
Today, we continue our reflection on diligence and excellence with the profound truth found in our leading verse Proverbs 20:11. This verse reminds us that our actions, and our work, speak volumes about who we are and what we carry within us.
In Exodus 34:6, when God introduced Himself to Moses, He declared Himself as "the Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abounding in goodness and truth." Here we see that God's goodness is not merely a concept, but an integral part of His character. And one of the ways God's goodness is expressed is through His work.
If we look back to the beginning of creation in Genesis 1:3-4, God spoke light into existence, and when He saw that it was good, it was a reflection of His goodness. This demonstrates that our work is not just a means to an end, but an opportunity to reflect the goodness of God. Therefore, we must understand that our work is an expression of what we carry within us. Just as God's goodness is expressed through His work, our work reflects our character and what we believe in. If we claim to carry goodness within us, then our work should reflect that.
Brethren in Christ, we must strive to do good work in all that we do. Whether it's a menial task or a significant project, let us approach it with excellence, integrity, and diligence. For our work is our signature, our testimony to the world of who we are and whose we are. Forgive us, Lord, for the times when we have approached our work with apathy or complacency. Help us to see every opportunity to work as a chance to honour You and serve others with excellence and integrity (Colossians 3:23).
Remember, there is no such thing as small work in the eyes of the Lord. Every task, no matter how seemingly insignificant, has value and significance when done with excellence and integrity. Therefore, let us commit to doing good work, knowing that we are representing our Heavenly Father in all that we do.
May the Lord empower us to do good work, and may our actions bring glory to His name. Amen.
Song of Worship
Oh Lord, my God
When I, in awesome wonder
Consider all the works Thy hands have made
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout the universe displayed
Prayer - Lord, may Your Spirit empower us to do good work – work that honours You and reflects Your goodness to those around us. May our work be a testimony of Your faithfulness, Your provision, and Your grace in Jesus' name, we pray. Amen
