"He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. "
- Matthew 28:6 (NKJV)
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of our faith, distinguishing Christianity from every other religion. Our God is alive! The empty grave isn’t a myth or a mere story; it’s a reality that forever changed history.
When the angel rolled the stone away from Jesus’ tomb, it wasn’t to let Him out—He had already risen. The stone was rolled away so we could look inside and see that the grave was empty. This undeniable truth assures us of Christ's victory and the hope we have in Him.
No one disputed that the tomb was empty, not even the Roman soldiers who guarded it. They couldn’t explain how the body was gone. The folded grave clothes left behind were proof of a deliberate, orderly act, not a rushed theft.
Jesus appeared to His disciples multiple times after His resurrection. They ate with Him, touched Him, and spoke with Him (John 20:19-20). Even doubting Thomas, who initially refused to believe, confessed, "My Lord and my God" when he touched Jesus’ wounds.
The disciples, once fleeing in fear, became bold witnesses willing to die for the truth of His resurrection. Peter, who denied Jesus to a servant girl, later stood before thousands proclaiming Christ as risen. Paul, a former persecutor of Christians, encountered Jesus on the road to Damascus and became one of the greatest apostles.
Death no longer has the final say.
The resurrection is more than an event in history; it has profound implications for our lives today. Jesus’ resurrection conquered the power of death and guarantees eternal life for all who believe in Him (1 Corinthians 15:54-57). Death no longer has the final say.
The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is at work in us as believers (Ephesians 1:19-20). His resurrection empowers us to overcome sin, fear, and every challenge we face.
Jesus’ resurrection assures us that He is with us always, even to the end of the age (Matthew 28:20 NKJV).
When Jesus appeared to Thomas, He said, "Because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed" (John 20:29 NKJV). This is a direct blessing for us, who believe in the risen Christ without physically seeing Him. Faith is not about having every question answered or every doubt removed; it is about trusting in the evidence of His Word, His Spirit, and the testimonies of those who have encountered Him.
The resurrection demands a response. The disciples lived boldly for Christ, even unto death. Paul, once a persecutor of Christians, was transformed by his encounter with the risen Jesus, declaring, "For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain" (Philippians 1:21 NKJV).
Live boldly, knowing that the risen Christ is with you, and let your life reflect the hope and triumph of the resurrection.
