The ways of Wisdom

March 17, 2025

" Who is like a wise man? And who knows the interpretation of a thing?

A man’s wisdom makes his face shine, and the sternness of his face is changed.”

Ecclesiastes 8:1 (NKJV)

Today, let us embark on a journey into the profound teachings of God's Word as we explore the theme, the ways of wisdom. As we navigate through life, with choices, challenges, and uncertainties, we are called to walk in the footsteps of divine wisdom. True wisdom begins with a reverent fear of the Lord. Prov 9:10 NIV The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Wisdom can be said to be the practical application of the Word of God to specific situations. It is relying on God for every step, every move we make and allowing His Word to guide us as we go through life.

One of the ways wisdom manifests is by words or by your works. We could see in Mark 6:2 how wisdom was expressed by Jesus through His words and works: And when the Sabbath had come, He began to teach in the synagogue. And many hearing Him were astonished, saying, “Where did this Man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands!

Two people can be saying the same thing, but wisdom would distinguish one from the other. In this scripture, Jesus was teaching from the books of Law just as previously taught by the Pharisees however, he was teaching with so much wisdom that the people could not resist. In your daily life, wisdom is required to set you apart from the rest of the people doing the same thing. You are not the only person that wants what you want, but wisdom will give you the advantage. Ask for wisdom!

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore, get wisdom and in all your getting, get understanding.

Another way wisdom is expressed is through your ways and your decisions. 1 Kings 3:28 NLT When all Israel heard the king’s decision, the people were in awe of the king, for they saw the wisdom God had given him for rendering justice. Many people have taken steps that have led to losses just because of a wrong decision. Where you are today in life is a culmination of your decisions.

Look at the story of the prodigal son in the bible in Luke 15:18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. This is an example of a man that got into trouble by making a wrong decision. When wisdom was engaged, he changed his season by the decision he made to return to his father. No matter where you are in your journey of life, or the mistakes you have made, wisdom is able to guide you to the right path. All you need to do is ask. If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. James 1:5 NKJV

Wisdom is also found in seeking godly counsel. The importance of seeking wisdom is explained in Proverbs 11:14: Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.

This is why churches have house fellowships where believers can relate with fellow believers and draw strength through unity and wisdom rooted in the word of God.

When you are faced with a difficult challenge and it seems there is no way out, ask for wisdom.

Are you overwhelmed with domestic challenges—children, spouse or others, and do not know what to do? Ask for wisdom! Are you planning to go into an interview or an examination? Seek wisdom so you can be set apart from the crowd. Whatever is before you, wisdom can make the difference you need! Engage the ways of wisdom in words, in works, and in decisions. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore, get wisdom and in all your getting, get understanding. May the Lord guide you in your decision-making. May His wisdom illuminate your mind, and help you make choices that align with His will.
