The Wisdom and Power of Christ II

For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

1 Cor 1:22-25 (NKJV)

Yesterday, as we explored Christ as the wisdom and power of God, we recognized a profound truth: Christ is the answer to all things. This belief is rooted in our faith that He was born, died, was buried, and was raised again on the third day for our sins. Today, we will continue our lesson by addressing two essential questions:

Where is the wisdom in Christ's crucifixion?

This leads us to the wisdom of substitution. In Romans 5:18-19, we learn that through the actions of Adam, all were classified as sinners. In response to this fallen state, God chose to become man, taking on flesh and being crucified for our sake. Through His sacrificial act, He made it possible for us to be declared righteous despite our sins.

Jesus willingly swapped places with us, absorbing the burdens of our spirit, soul, and body so that we could experience profound transformation and come alive (Isaiah 53:4-5). This exchange highlights the depth of His love and the magnitude of His grace.

Where is the power in Christ's crucifixion?

This is represented in the power of domination. In His crucifixion, Christ triumphed over sin and death, exercising authority over the devil (Colossians 2:15). Consequently, sin holds no dominion over us as believers. We possess the power to resist temptation and say no to sin. However, as long as we continue to hide our sins, the enemy gains an advantage. He constantly reminds us of our past failures to instill shame and distance us from God’s promises.

While the crucifixion may appear weak, it is, in fact, a triumph of immense significance (1 Corinthians 1:25). It proves Christ's power over the devil (Revelation 1:17-18) and establishes His authority over all darkness.

In this light, God has also bestowed upon us the power to achieve greatness in our lives (Philippians 4:13). This divine empowerment flows from the cross, where the same power that raised Christ from the dead is made available to us. This ultimate power equips us to fulfil God’s purpose for our lives and empowers us to walk in victory, boldly declaring His truth and love in the name of Jesus.
