“Then the Jews surrounded Him and said to Him, “How long do You keep us in doubt? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly. Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me”
- John 10: 24-25 (NKJV).
Today’s devotional explores the divine nature of Jesus, His identity as God, and the powerful works that testify to this truth. Our biblical text reminds us that Jesus’s actions – His miracles, His words, and His love – are not only signs of His power but also proof of His deity. His works confirm that He is the Messiah, God Himself, and the One who holds authority over all creation.
The miracles of Jesus serve as demonstrations of His divinity, illustrating that nothing is impossible for Him. When Jesus walked on water in Matthew 14:22-33, He defied the natural laws, showcasing a power that only God possesses. Another profound example is when He raised Lazarus from the dead after three days - John 11:39. In Jewish belief, after three days, a person's situation was considered irreversible.
Yet, in His divine authority, Jesus did what only God could do = He called Lazarus out of the grave. Just as He reversed Lazarus’s impossible situation, Jesus can also breathe new life into areas of our lives that feel dead or hopeless.
In John 20:28, Thomas declared, “My Lord and my God,” after encountering the risen Christ. This revelation transformed Thomas’s faith, and this same truth can strengthen ours. Jesus’s works continually remind us that He alone is worthy of our adoration.
As we reflect on the deity of Jesus, we are called to worship Him alone. While we can honor and respect others, our worship must be reserved solely for God. In Revelation 19:10 (NKJV), the Apostle John, overwhelmed by an angel’s message, mistakenly began to worship the angel. The angel corrected him, saying, “See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” We, too, must remain vigilant not to let our worship stray, whether toward people, traditions, or doctrines. Our focus should always rest on Jesus, recognizing that only He deserves our highest praise.
As you go through your day, ask God to reveal more of Jesus’s works in your life as reminders of His divine presence and love. Let this truth deepen your devotion, inspiring you to worship Jesus alone. He is our Savior and our God, and He continues to perform miracles in our lives today.
Song of Worship
I worship You Almighty God
There is none like You
O' I worship You
O' Prince of Peace
That is what I want to do
And I give You praise
For You are my righteousness
Prayer - Father, help us to worship You alone. May we not mix our worship with other beliefs or doctrines but honour You as the one true God. Amen.
