"And it was told David, “Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.” And David said, “O Lord, please turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.”
- 2 Samuel 15:31 (ESV)
In 2 Samuel 15, we see King David at a moment of deep betrayal and crisis. His son, Absalom, had risen in rebellion against him, and to make matters worse, David's trusted advisor, Ahithophel, had joined the conspiracy. Known for his wisdom, Ahithophel’s counsel was highly regarded, making this a serious threat to David’s kingship. Yet, instead of responding in fear, David turned to God with a simple but powerful prayer: "O Lord, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness."
David’s response to this dire situation teaches us an important lesson: when we face conspiracies and opposition, our first response should be prayer. Rather than strategizing in the flesh, David sought divine intervention, acknowledging that God could alter the plans of even the wisest counsellors. This story reminds us that in the face of adversity, our ultimate weapon is prayer. No matter how carefully crafted the enemy’s plans are, God has the power to turn them into foolishness.
In your own life, whether facing opposition in your workplace, business, or relationships, trust that God hears your prayers. When people conspire against you or when decisions seem to threaten your future, cry out to God as David did. God can shift circumstances in your favour.
Trust in God's ability to reverse the situation.
David’s prayer was also a declaration of faith in God’s sovereignty. He understood that no matter how skillful or clever someone’s plans may be, God ultimately controls the outcome. Ahithophel's counsel was renowned for its wisdom, yet David had faith that God could render it ineffective.
This principle holds true for us today. Whatever schemes or negative advice others may plot against you, if you are walking with God, He can render them powerless or ineffective. Even in corporate settings, business meetings, or life decisions, even when others may be working against you, the Lord can turn the tide in your favor. Proverbs 21:30 (NKJV) reminds us that, " There is no wisdom or understanding or counsel against the Lord."
David’s prayer was not just for escape from danger but to see the enemy’s plans confused and ineffective. This can be our prayer as well when faced with unjust opposition. Ask the Lord to turn any plan that is not in line with His will into foolishness. Whether it’s false accusations, harmful decisions, or unfair treatment, God has the power to turn it around.
In your prayer life, be bold like David. Declare victory over conspiracies and harmful counsel. Speak life into your situations and believe that God is for you, turning every circumstance in your favor. As Romans 8:31 (ESV) says, "If God is for us, who can be against us?"
When you find yourself in a moment where the odds seem stacked against you, don’t be discouraged. Trust in God's ability to reverse the situation. Even the most carefully laid plans set against you will crumble when you place them in God's hands.

Prayer - Heavenly Father, just as David prayed, we ask You to turn every counsel that is not in our Favour into foolishness. Wherever some conspiracies or plans seek to harm us, render them powerless. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
