Waiting on God’s Word

For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven,

And do not return there, But water the earth, And make it bring forth and bud,

That it may give seed to the sower And bread to the eater,

So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

 - Isaiah 55: 10-11

How well do you know God? Every Christian claims to know God - we know how to praise, worship and speak in tongues till it is time to wait for something that we desire. It would seem that all that we know of God suddenly goes out of our mind once panic and anxiety set in. We begin to set deadlines for God and make moves outside of His plan for us just to get our desires.

In today’s text, God is reminding us that He does not promise and fail. He compares His words and promises to rain and snow. They fall from the skies and cannot return to the skies before they have done their work—they trigger germination, growth and eventually, harvest.

Every word that proceeds from the mouth of God is not permitted to return to Him without fulfilling its intention. His words have an errand to run in our lives and till it is God’s time, we have an obligation as children of God to wait - not begrudgingly but with an understanding that He Who began a good work in us will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6).

Waiting is not usually pleasant, and it can cause us to worry. However, as Christians, our connection to God is beyond our flesh and there are certain things that we should do while we wait.

We should put on a posture of worship and thanksgiving to remind ourselves of the faithfulness of God (Isaiah 54:1).

We should give attention to the word of God and keep His words in the midst of our heart (Proverbs 4:20).

We also must be careful of the things we say because we are feeling disappointed.

The only timeline that is important is that of God and anyone who trusts in the Him will never be disappointed.

Song of Worship

I have a very big God- 1x

Who is always by my side - 1x

A very big God - 1x

By my side - 2x

Prayer - Hear Lord, thank you for giving me the opportunity to be part of the body of Christ. Sometimes, I am confronted by issues of life however I know that You have never failed and Your intentions towards me are always good. Please give me the grace to wait diligently and to mirror my thoughts, words and actions to Your likeness in Jesus’ name, Amen.
