What Do You See?

October 16, 2024

“After this I looked, and behold, a door was standing open in heaven.”

 - Revelation 4:1 (NKJV)

This devotional reminds us of the importance of being intentional and spiritually perceptive in recognizing the opportunities and blessings that God opens for us. Revelation 4:1 reveals a powerful principle: “After this I looked, and behold, a door was standing open in heaven.” The key phrase here is “I looked.” The open door was already there, but it was John's act of looking that brought the door to his awareness. This teaches us that many of the doors God opens for us require us to be spiritually alert and intentional in seeking them.

In life, many believers are waiting for God to show them the way or reveal their next steps, but often the invitation is for us to look. Just as John looked and saw the open door, we are encouraged to actively seek God's guidance and be expectant of His provision. We cannot just passively wait for everything to be handed to us; we must posture ourselves in faith, believing that God has already prepared the way.

The prophet Habakkuk also illustrates this principle in Habakkuk 2:1 when he says, “I will stand upon my watch... and I will watch to see what He will say to me.” Habakkuk made a deliberate decision to position himself to see and hear from God. This act of will and faith is essential for unlocking the doors of opportunity, healing, restoration, and provision that God has already set before us.

The open door was already there, but it was John's act of looking that brought the door to his awareness.

In Jeremiah 1:11, God asked the prophet, “Jeremiah, what do you see?” The emphasis was not on what God was showing but on what Jeremiah could perceive. God had the power to reveal, but Jeremiah had the responsibility to see. When Jeremiah saw correctly, God affirmed, “You have seen well,” and then promised to perform His word quickly.

This reminds us that our spiritual vision matters. What we see influences how we experience God's promises. If we look with faith, we will recognize the doors of opportunity, healing, and restoration. If we fail to look, we may miss what God has prepared for us.

We should strive to be like John, Habakkuk, and Jeremiah—intentional and expectant. God has opened doors for us, but it's our responsibility to look and see them. Whether it's healing, provision, or a new season of blessing, we must have the faith and willingness to open our eyes and step into what God has already made available.

Let this be a season where you declare, “I will look and see the doors God has opened for me!”

Prayer - Heavenly Father, I refuse to be passive or blind to Your blessings, and I commit to walking in step with Your will. Give me the grace to recognize the open doors and the courage to step through them. In Jesus' name, Amen.
